Cutting out your pattern pieces accurately is a critical step to insure that your finished project will be stunning and fit perfectly.
What do you use to cut out perfect stained glass pattern pieces every time?
We use pattern shears. They’re awkward to hold and take some practice to use, since they have a single blade and a double blade. They are designed to cut away a strip equal to the width of the copper foil you’ll be using.
If you cut out your glass pattern carefully with the pattern shears, you can have a beautiful perfect fit because your pattern pieces will be the right size when you glue them onto the glass. We’ll post about that in another blog post.
When you have little pieces to cut, you may need to make a series of little crunches with your pattern shears to get around the curves and sharp angles.
Just practice, practice, practice and using the pattern shears will get easier. We give people simple suncatcher patterns to practice on. Whatever you practice on, just keep going.
You’ll love the results!
